30 Hour Famine 2012UMC

Mardi gras is French for Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras season", and "Carnival season", in English, refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life. --------- 30 Hour Famine is, at heart, a fast. Fasting is abstaining from eating food in order to focus your thoughts, prayers and efforts on things most important to God. Fasting for 30 hours also gives teens an appreciation of what real hunger feels like, teens who don’t stop eating for 30 seconds! Starting at noon on Friday, February 24th, the kids will drink only juice and water while studying the bible and serving in their community. They will break their fast on Saturday, February 25th at 6pm. To support their fast, teens will collect donations from their community that will go directly to combatting the threat of world hunger. But how? World Vision has a plan World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. They operate in nearly 100 countries around the world, partnering with communities to find lasting ways of improving the lives of children and their families while providing international disaster relief. 87 cents of every dollar donated go directly to emergency relief and community programs (the rest goes to fundraising and management). ===================================================== 1 protect the harvest:Introduced by Tribe Bolivia Matthew 14:19-21 (NIV) And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. Mat 14:19 於是吩咐眾人坐在草地上,就拿著這五個餅,兩條魚,望著天祝福,擘開餅,遞給門徒,門徒又遞給眾人。 Mat 14:20 他們都吃,並且吃飽了;把剩下的零碎收拾起來,裝滿了十二個籃子。 Mat 14:21 吃的人,除了婦女孩子,約有五千。 Discussion questions for Matthew 14:19-21 1) How do you think God feels about the hungry? 2) How does this passage relate to the game we just played? 3) What does this passage say about how God can use us to help care for his children who are hungry? ===================================================== 2 deadliest predator:Introduced by Tribe Zambia Matthew 25:36 (NIV) “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Mat 25:36 我赤身露體,你們給我穿;我病了、你們看顧我;我在監裡,你們來看我。』 Discussion questions for Matthew 25:36 1) Have you ever been really sick or in need and had someone let you down?
